Peter Bouwmeester volgde gedurende langere tijd twee organisaties met de camera. ‘Ghetto Potential‘ zet zich in voor de bevordering van de kunstzinnige ontwikkeling van de kinderen in de getto’s van Nairobi Kenia. ‘Bijlmer Breakz‘ werd in 2005 opgericht om de omstreden, maar geliefde woonwijk in beeld te brengen. De foto’s bieden daarmee een aangename afwisseling op de stroom van ontmoedigende beelden uit de Bijlmer en Nairobi, die we doorgaans in de media aantreffen.

Photos from the Ghetto potential exposition are on display at the St. Jan de Doperschool in Amsterdam. The school and it’s director Jan van Aert are actively involved in exchanges with Africa.

During the last two weekends of November 2008, I take part with work of Ghetto protential in Kwasiafrikani, a nomadic art event, that evolved when Wim Vonk met Cas Rooseboom and Klaas de Jonge. It is based on their affinity with African art and art history. Alas ‘rules and regulations’ prevented the event from going public. However, a film will be made by Enno de Jonge, which can be seen in due course on the website of the event.

From March 18, 2008 until April 25, 2008 you can visit the exposition with photographic work from Ghetto Potential (GP) at the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) in Amstelveen. (more…)
