Peter Bouwmeester volgde gedurende langere tijd twee organisaties met de camera.
‘Ghetto Potential‘ zet zich in voor de bevordering van de kunstzinnige ontwikkeling van de kinderen in de getto’s van Nairobi Kenia. ‘Bijlmer Breakz‘ werd in 2005 opgericht om de omstreden, maar geliefde woonwijk in beeld te brengen. De foto’s bieden daarmee een aangename afwisseling op de stroom van ontmoedigende beelden uit de Bijlmer en Nairobi, die we doorgaans in de media aantreffen.

Het Nederland van de Fotografenavond

43 fotografen van de Fotografenavond, de maandelijkse ontmoetingsplaats voor de professionele fotowereld, hebben een intrigerend, zeer divers beeld gecreëerd van Nederland. Voorbij aan het cliché, of dan wel met een knipoog. Analoog en digitaal, documentair en autonoom, met de voeten in de poldergrond tot hoog vanuit de lucht. Van nostalgische beelden van toen geluk nog heel gewoon was, tot de multi-culturele smeltkroes van 2009. Vrij ademende horizonten en een wielerwedstrijd op de dijk, maar ook het hectisch dagelijks leven in druk bevolkte steden.
De tentoonstelling is van 30 januari tot en met 22 februari 2009 te bezichtigen in de ABC Treehouse, Voetboogstraat 11, Amsterdam (bij het Spui).
U bent van harte uitgenodigd voor de feestelijke opening op zondag 1 februari van 16.00 tot 18.00 uur.

St. Jan de Doperschool
Photos from the Ghetto potential exposition are on display at the St. Jan de Doperschool in Amsterdam. The school and it’s director Jan van Aert are actively involved in exchanges with Africa.
Kwasiafrikani
During the last two weekends of November 2008, I take part with work of Ghetto protential in Kwasiafrikani, a nomadic art event, that evolved when Wim Vonk met Cas Rooseboom and Klaas de Jonge. It is based on their affinity with African art and art history. Alas ‘rules and regulations’ prevented the event from going public. However, a film will be made by Enno de Jonge, which can be seen in due course on the website of the event.

Exposition ghetto potential
From March 18, 2008 until April 25, 2008 you can visit the exposition with photographic work from Ghetto Potential (GP) at the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) in Amstelveen. GP is a foundation that supports young talents from the ghettos in Nairobi in their artistic development.
The exposition will be opened by journalist and photographer Aloys Ginjaar at Thursday March 27, 2008, 16:30 hours. You can read Aloys’ (dutch) opening text on the site of De fotografenavond.

Work presented at the exposition:
High quality prints by Het Lab Peter Paul Huf in luxurious matte silver aluminum frames with off-white mounting boards. Print size 100×66 cm, frame size 120×86 cm. The framed prints sell for 480 euro including tax and profits are used to further support Ghetto potential.
